Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Pitted Dates
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Dry Figs
  • 1/2 cup Nuts (I used a mix of Cashew nuts, Almonds, Walnuts)
  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1/2 cup Hot milk / water
  • Extra whole nuts - a handful (optional)

Instructions

  • Soak the pitted dates and chopped dry figs in hot milk or water for 15-20 minutes.
  • In a frying pan, dry roast the nuts and oats for 2 minutes. Keep aside to cool down.
  • Grind the nuts and oats in a food processor or dry grinder to a powder form.
  • Remove the dates and fig from the milk/water and puree in the food processor. (The fruits absorb some or all of the milk/water.)
  • In a large bowl, mix the pureed fruits and the powdered nuts and oats. Add whole nuts, if you wish.
  • Mould the mixture into small balls using your hand.
  • Refrigerate and snack away!

Notes

  • If you have young toddlers at home, avoid adding whole nuts as they can be a choking hazard.
  • You can replace cashew nuts, almonds and walnuts with other nuts like peanut, hazelnut, pistachio, etc.
  • Wetting your hands with water while moulding the mixture into balls will be easier as the mixture may be very sticky.
  • You can coat the energy bites / laddus with dessicated coconut, sesame seeds, crushed pistachios, etc.
